We are contributing to building an Africa where governance systems are inclusive, transparent, and accountable to the people, so that they protect people’s rights, democratic values and our planet.

Civic Spaces
We promote accountable, just and inclusive democracies, governed by the rule of law, in which basic rights are protected and promoted. Together with our partners, we defend and champion the fundamental right to freedom of speech and association. We relentlessly fight against corruption, oppose any attempts to suppress civic spaces, and challenge the abuse of constitutional and political power, including the removal and reduction of women’s rights and workers’ rights. We ensure that those in positions of authority are held firmly accountable for their decisions and actions.

Accountable Public Services
We campaign for greater investment to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare, social protection and education for all.

Fiscal Justice and Debt Sustainability
We advocate for fairer fiscal systems that support progressive taxation and the sharing of income from natural resources. We combat illicit financial flows and other actions that contribute to growing inequality. We expose Africa’s crippling debt burdens, highlight their impacts and demand a united front on debt relief.

Youth and Social Movements
We support the fight of youth organizations and other social movements to operate freely and engage in the governance of their country. It includes equipping local partners with the tools and resources to campaign for debt justice, challenge autocracy and elite capture, and demand rights and accountability from governments.
By 2030 we hope that:
- Governance structures at both national and international levels are more transparent and accountable. It includes measures such as adopting international tax conventions, tightening tax laws, reducing debt burdens, and strengthening the capacity of democratic and human rights institutions.
- Civil society organizations, youth groups, labor movements, and citizens are empowered to advocate for social justice, human rights, and accountability.
- There are increased investments in essential services, particularly healthcare, social protection, and education, and these services are delivered efficiently by the states.
