“With the earnings from my okra and jute mallow harvest, I'm investing in two goats to secure a sustainable future for my family”
In the heart of Lankien, Nyirol County, a dedicated elderly farmer woman extends her heartfelt gratitude to Oxfam and partners for their unwavering support in uplifting local farmers. Her message resonates with a plea for continued assistance, emphasizing the transformative impact it has had on the farming community, the inspiring journey of empowerment and growth, fueled by Oxfam's commitment to fostering sustainable agriculture and enabling more individuals to embrace the path of farming in Lankien.
Nyahial Bith, 61 years of age, was part of a recent training initiative conducted by Oxfam with support from BMZ, 60 beneficiaries - comprising 30 Pultruk and 30 Thol farmers - were trained over three days. The training, which took place on 29 September 2023, saw the participation of 4 men and 56 women. This comprehensive support and training not only empower farmers like Nyahial Bith but also contributes to the sustainable growth of the farming community in Lankien Nyirol county.
The farming community has been making significant strides in her agricultural endeavors, particularly in cultivating and selling jute mallow, okra and other vegetables with their hard work and determination, the farmers have managed to accumulate an impressive accumulative sum of 600,000 SSP.
What sets Nyahial Bith apart is her passion for what she does - not only does she enjoy the fruits of her labor with her family, but she also sees the potential to expand her business further by selling her produce.

Looking ahead, Nyahial Bith has set her sights on purchasing goats to not only support her family but also enhance her farming activities. However, like many farmers, she faces the challenge of theft. To address this issue, Oxfam with support from BMZ has stepped in by providing essential support such as fencing for security measures. Additionally, beneficiaries have been equipped with tools, water cards, and solar panels to facilitate water generation for farming purposes. Tools like axes and hoes have also been distributed to aid in their agricultural activities.
