Reacting to the declaration issued at the conclusion of the IDA for Africa Head of State Summit, Oxfam in Africa Director, Fati N’Zi-Hassane said:
“A bigger-than-ever IDA replenishment is critical at this moment when African countries are facing crises of debt, climate breakdown and inequality.
‘‘It is commendable to see African leaders, especially from IDA recipient countries, actively advocating for better funding for their countries’ development priorities and aspirations.
“Reaching a high dollar amount is a vital first step. The next and more important step is to accountably, transparently and effectively invest the resources in critical and inequality-busting sectors such as quality healthcare, education, social protection, and care infrastructure.
“IDA21 must set the stage for prioritizing more equitable economies and prioritize the needs of women by increasing their access to vital healthcare services, including reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child healthcare.”
